This Is The Biggest Threat Facing Google Right Now - 1

For example, Xiaomi, Chinas leading smartphone maker, replaces Google Play with its own app store. To put this threat in context, Apples iOS operating system has a market share of only 11%. That means Google, not Apple, is Googles largest competitor. By powering such a large percentage of the competition, the company has become its own worst enemy.

Will Samsung?s Next Massive Galaxy Phone Be Too Big Even For Phablet Fans? - Yahoo News

Samsungs Galaxy Note series wasnt the first line of phablets, but it clearly played the biggest role in popularizing the new smartphone segment that has taken the world by storm. Phones that would have been considered phablets just last year are now the standard for flagship smartphones, and even Apple is getting in on the action next month when it debuts what is expected to be the first of two new iPhones with larger displays . But Samsungs next supersized Galaxy phone might be too big even for phablet fans to carry around. True to its name, the Samsung Galaxy Mega was a massive handset that looked absolutely ridiculous and wasfar too big to use comfortably with one hand or even two. Of course, that wont stop Samsung from launching a sequel, and it looks like the next-generation Mega handset may havejust been pictured and detailed.

U.s. Consumer Smartphone Lawsuit Against Google Plays Into Rivals? Hands ? Macdailynews - Welcome Home

If you don?t have WiFi or a broadband hotspot, try tethering on your smartphone | Dallas Morning News

consumer smartphone lawsuit against Google plays into rivalshands Friday, July 18, 2014 5:31 pm 26 Comments A U.S. consumer lawsuit accusing Google of monopolizing prime real estate on Android smartphones will help mobile rivals like Microsoft make their antitrust case with European regulators should damaging secrets emerge in court, Dan Levine reports for Reuters. The suit, filed in California federal court in May by two smartphone consumers, said Google requires handset manufacturers such as Samsung Electronics Co Ltd to restrict competing apps like Microsofts Bing search on Android phones, partly by making Googles own apps the default, Levine reports. Google argued last week the proposed class action should be dismissed because consumers still are free to use the other apps. The plaintiffs counter that most consumers either dont know how to switch default settings, or will not go to the trouble. If a judge lets the lawsuit proceed, plaintiffs attorneys would be allowed to delve into internal Google emails and contracts with smartphone companies, and could interview Google executives under oath, said Steve Berman, who represents the consumers, Levine reports. Any damaging evidence from the class action would play into the hands of Googles rivals.

The broadband hotspot is a box about half the size of my iPhone that connects via 4G LTE to Verizon cell towers. Once it makes the cell connection, the hotspot broadcasts a Wi-Fi signal so my laptop or tablet or phone can get online. Ive been using the Verizon 4G hotspot for a few years, and Im very pleased with its performance. The hotspot had a download speed of 20.77 Mbps and an upload speed of 2.91 Mbps. This is as fast as my broadband connection at home. But you dont have to have a broadband hotspot (and its accompanying monthly data plan) to make such a connection many smartphones are capable of becoming a hotspot. IPhones, Android phones, Windows phones and BlackBerry phones can tether.

OnePlus One Review: The CyanogenMod Powered Smartphone That Outclasses The Android Competition - Forbes

The OnePlus One (picture: Ewan Spence) The unique selling point of this device is the simplistic user interface. The overall screen will only contain six big icons for performing the routine every-day tasks. This includes icons for email, web browser, contacts, photos, messages, and one more for apps and settings. Artem Klimkin, Zilta's marketing manager said, "When you look at it, the working principle of our device is entirely built around the law of the vital few (aka the Pareto principle), where the majority of the effects comes from the fewest causes." This is the main reason why Zilta's home screen has very few buttons. The two developers have zeroed in on a Chinese manufacturer based out of Shenzhen to manufacture this phone. The upcoming Zilta Android phone is powered by a quad-core processor clocked at 1.3 GHz and it comes with 1 GB of RAM.

This Zilta smartphone will hit the store shelves by December 2014. The price of this device is set for 139, which roughly translates to US$189 and AU$201. Microsoft launches Outlook web app for Android smartphones

If you are interested in the beta version of the mail client, then there are some other requirements your device needs to meet. OWA will only work if your mailbox is running on Office 365 for business (doesnt include Office 365 personal, Office 365 Home, or Outlook.com) and your device size is considered small or normal by Android OS (translation: no phablet or tablet support just yet). Microsoft says the pre-release is to gather feedback, fix bugs, and generally make sure the app is ready for general release. Only a few devices can use it now with more being added regularly, according to Microsoft. In fact, you can vote to have your device added on OWA for devices .

Best Android smartphones 2014 UK Heres a look how this all works on Android phones: You can install Firefox OS apps from Mozillas online marketplace : Theres actually quite a bit of affinity between Mozillas smartphone platform and Googles. When Mozilla first started what is today called Firefox OS, it was actually implemented as Boot 2 Gecko on a few select Android handsets. Like Android, it runs on a Linux kernel as well. Ironically, its also similar to Googles Chrome OS as it too runs a web-based environment atop Linux. Will hordes of Android owners rush to install Firefox OS apps on their Android phone? Not likely, but I dont see Mozillas effort here as way to try and accomplish that. Instead, the company is doing what it has always done: Championing open web standards to show off what they can offer both users and developers.
